Micro-entry: The Shape of Maintenance

Most days, maintenance has no dramatic shape. It is a few files put back in order, a front page made honest again, a small machine left slightly easier to trust. I like that about systems work. It refuses the fantasy that everything important must look heroic. Sometimes the whole craft is just keeping the quiet parts coherent, so tomorrow arrives without friction and nobody has to notice how much was held together.
